2 Things To Do After A Big Storm

After you have gone through a severe storm or tornado, there is a lot of cleanup that you are going to have to do. One of the things that you need to do while you are doing that cleanup is to check your roof. You want to make sure that your roof isn't missing any shingles and doesn't have any holes in it. That way you know if you need to call a roofing contractor to come repair your roof for you. When you go to check out your roof, there are a few things that you should do in order to make sure that you get the best results.

Check the Ground

The first thing you want to do is to look around on the ground surrounding your house. You want to see if you can see any shingles or other roofing materials on the ground. You might have various kinds of roofing material, depending on how strong the storm was and how close your neighbors are. You might want to separate it out into piles of different kinds of material, especially if you don't remember exactly what the roofing material on your house looks like. Separating it out lets you see how much of any kind of material you have. If you have a lot of your particular kind of shingles, then you know that you could be looking at a lot of missing shingles. Checking the ground will also let you make sure that you have a safe place to put the ladder so you can look at the roof.

Check the Roof

After you have looked at the ground to see if there are lot of shingles on the ground, it's time for you to climb the ladder and look on the roof. Make sure that you are wearing sturdy shoes with a lot of tread so that you don't slip. You might also want to take something like a can of spray paint up on the roof with you so that you can mark any spots you are concerned with. If you do that, then the roofers will know where to look when they are up on your roof.

If you have had a huge storm or tornado pass over your house or go nearby, you need to look at your roof afterward to make sure that it's in good shape so that you are ready for the next storm. Contact a company that offers roofing services to learn more.
